The Saint Louis Blues were victimized again the the NHL’s “re-entry” waiver clause in the current CBA.
The Blues signed 27 year-old forward Kyle Wellwood to a contract earlier this week only to be informed that the San Jose Sharks had claimed him. The Sharks have 51 points while the Blues have 48 points. In the NHL, all 30 teams have a chance to sign a player that is being passed through the re-entry waivers.
It’s the second time this season the Blues have lost out on a player due to re-entry waivers; they signed Marek Svatos last month, but he was promptly claimed by the Nashville Predators.
It is another reason that makes NHL commissioner Gary Bettman the most puzzling man to understand.
