Notes 8.2

The Cardinals go for sweep against Colorado tonight, and I like their chances. Lance Lynn (13-4) will look to rebound following a rough outing in Chicago. RHP Alex White, acquired in the Ubaldo Jimenez trade last July, was recalled to start in favor of LHP Christain Friedrich. White is 2-6 with a 6.45 ERA in 10 starts with the big league club, but has pitched well at Triple-A Colorado Springs.

The Cardinals are 53-24 when they score 3+ runs in a game, but just 3-24 when they score fewer than 3 runs.

Matt Holliday is on a straight tear. Despite a .215 average in April, Holliday has responded hitting .340 in May, .363 in June, and .363 in July. He hit HR #20 and #21 last night to start August. He has hit safely in 27-straight games.

As David Freese quipped following Wednesday’s game, “It looks like he used to play here or something”, regarding Holliday, a career .359 hitter with 90 HR at Coors Field.

NOTES

The Cardinals have five players with 15+ HR’s for just the 8th time in franchise history

The Cardinals pitching staff crafted a ML-best 2.70 ERA last month, getting quality starts in 20 of their 25 games played in July and the bullpen had a 2.18 ERA (2nd-NL) and just one blown save.

Since 2000, the Cardinals own the N.L.’s top winning pct. (197-140, .585) during the “dog days” of August.
